PC Migration Complete Checklist

Please follow these steps in order when using PC Migration Pro to ensure that a complete migration has been done.

PC Migration Pro will migrate all files and profile settings. You will be required to install any applications before the migration and enter some passwords (for security reasons).

Preparing to migrate #

1. Logon to the user’s new computer with their credentials
2. Confirm Windows Operating System version on the new computer is correct.
3. Install commonly installed applications on new computer (Important that this is done before the migration!)
   1. Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Outlook and OneDrive)
   2. Microsoft Teams
   3. Adobe PDF
   4. Chrome / Firefox
4. Install any other applications
   • Review a list from Programs and Features on the old computer and install each application on the computer.
5. Check hard drive compatibility
   • Ensure that the new computer have sufficient disk space available to migrate all of the data (see https://help.pcmigrationpro.com/docs/what-happens-if-the-new-computer-has-less-disk-space-than-the-older-computer/)
   • Ensure that the new computer has the same hard drive volumes configured (see https://help.pcmigrationpro.com/docs/what-happens-when-my-hard-drive-configuration-is-different-on-my-new-computer/)

Migrating #

1. Migrate Files and Profile Settings using PC Migration Pro
   • All files will be migrated (see https://help.pcmigrationpro.com/docs/which-files-are-included-and-excluded-for-migration/)
   • All profile settings will be migrated (see https://help.pcmigrationpro.com/docs/what-types-of-settings-are-migrated/)

Final setup #

1. Confirm that all files have migrated
   • If any files were skipped during the migration, close the applications using those files on the old computer and run an Update Migration. All files must complete before you switch the user to a new computer.
2. Sign out and Sign in on the new computer so that the profile settings can be applied.
3. Launch Microsoft Outlook
   • For security reasons you will be required to enter your passwords for each email account.
   • Your Microsoft PST files and settings (including signatures) will already be setup.
   • Your OST (live) email will be synchronised from your email account.
4. Launch Microsoft Teams
   • Sign into Microsoft Teams with your Office 365 account.
5. Launch Chrome or Firefox
   • Sign the user into their internet browser (using the account used on the old computer).
   • Login to password management extensions (LastPass etc.).
   • Confirm the user’s other Browser Extensions are working.
6. OneDrive
   • Sign into OneDrive (Microsoft 365 password required for security reasons).
   • All of the user’s OneDrive synced files will already be migrated to the new computer and will not be required to sync.
7. Windows Taskbar shortcuts
   • Remove any unnecessary default shortcuts (some are added by the Operating System by default).
